I was born in West Belfast in 1974 and my interest in music began at the age of seven when my Da taught me to play the tin whistle.
Some years later a kind getleman called Ed Harrison got me started on the uilleann pipes and gave me my first lesson.
Belfast was one of those pockets of the country where the uilleann pipes seemed to thrive. Many fine uilleann pipers were living there and I learned alot from them.
Apart from now being a maker of these instruments, I really enjoy playing music and won the All-Ireland title for playing the uilleann pipes a number of years ago.
The making in a set of uilleann pipes is a challenging process which crosses into the boundaries of a variety of skills such as wood turning, leather work, jewellery making, and, of course, an ability to play the instrument.
All of these skills combine to produce an instrument which is capable of producing those sounds which you can hear on the 'Listen' section of this website.
Ever since I became a Christian a few years ago, the wonders of creation are a constant reminder to me of my own maker.
